Under 18's clarification for Working with Children Check (WWCC) or equivalent

State and Territories across Australia have differing legislation on Working with Children Checks (WWCC) or equivalent for people who under 18 years old.

Gymnastics Australia will not chase members who are under 18 years of age for missing WWCC or equivalent details in our database.

However all Clubs and State Associations should refer to the table below to ensure that all staff and volunteers are meeting the requirements State/Territory legislation to hold a current Working with Children Check (WWCC) or equivalent when working in direct contact with children.

StateWho is exempt from WWCC or equivalent
ACTUnder 16 year olds
NSWUnder 18 year olds
NTUnder 15 year olds
QLDUnder 18 year olds who are volunteers (except students required to work in regulated employment as part of their studies)
SAUnder 14 year olds
TASUnder 16 year olds
VICUnder 18 year olds
WAUnder 18 year olds who are volunteers.

However, please be aware this doesn’t apply if you’re supervising other children in paid employment who are under 15 years of age.

To enter WWCC or equivalent details into the database for members under 18 years, please go to Club Admin Portal> WWCC Check tab>  E. Exempt from Check Members query and click on the member's name who requires to be updated to bring up the WWCC information panel for that member.

If the member is missing from the list, please refer to How to Manage Relationships for Club Personnel and Tech Members.
